Have you seen bikers spending their weekends standing in front of Walmart, Redner’s, Dollar Store in Oxford? Giant in Jennersville? Acme in Avondale or other stores?
These bikers are members of Chester County ABATE and are collecting nonperishable food for Oxford Neighborhood Services as they’ve done for over 25 years.
Joe Caulfield of Chester County ABATE and ABATE volunteers began collecting non-perishables and taking donations on May 28 by setting up collection points from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at various supermarkets and general stores in the area. They will be setting up at the Dollar Stores in Nottingham and Cochranville on June 24 and 25.
On July 1, the day of the food run, members of Chester County ABATE and others will meet in the Jennersville Shopping Center parking lot on Route 796 and Old Baltimore Pike. They will leave at 1 p.m. and deliver the food to the Neighborhood Services Center. The Oxford Police Department will meet the caravan at the borough line and provide an escort for a short parade through town that ends at the drop-off point. You don’t have to ride a motorcycle or be an ABATE member to participate.
